FAMILY ROOTS

Downton Hall Estate is all about family. Our family has been here since 1738, so the roots go deep. We are lucky enough that most of our agricultural, residential and commercial tenants have been here for years and, in several cases, more than two generations.

When letting out our houses, our philosophy is to find people who want a home and become involved in the community. Find out more about our residential and commercial lettings:

HISTORY

TIMELESS INTERIORS

Downton Hall Estate is a stunning Georgian creation that boasts some of the most impressive interiors from each era in Shropshire County. Its history dates back to the early 18th century, with the Pearce, Wredenhall, and Shepherd/Hall families consolidating the estate's interests through marriage and inheritance. The magnificent Georgian house, Downton Hall, was built in several distinct phases during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, with stunning interiors beautifully preserved over time.

A Legacy of Social & Sporting Pursuits

A hub for social and sporting pursuits, with the Rouse-Boughton family, who owned the estate during the 19th and early 20th centuries, cherishing their home and keeping it grand. The family's love for hunting and equestrian activities thrived, and the estate became a central location for fox-hunting enthusiasts. Today, you can hire the estate’s cricket ground for the day, which includes access to the charming pavilion.

Downton Hall’s outstanding position offers far-reaching views.

Downton Hall, a Grade 11* Georgian property, was built in 1738 and has remained in the same family since its construction.
